Cycling with your children, picking them up from daycare, heading out for a family weekend, or even jogging with them: a Thule bike trailer opens up a world of possibilities. But between the Chariot Lite, the Chariot Cross, and the Chariot Sport, how do you know which one really fits your use?
At KAMEO Bikes, our advisors in Liège and Brussels-Uccle hear this question regularly. To answer it clearly, we've selected three Thule models that cover most family uses — from occasional leisure outings to intensive daily use.
This guide reflects our in-store advice, based on each model's real strengths and the use patterns we see among our customers. Each trailer is available in a 1- or 2-child version.
Key takeaways
- Chariot Lite: ideal for leisure cycling use. Best finish-to-price ratio.
- Chariot Cross: for mixed cycling + walking/running use, with handy brake option for downhill.
- Chariot Sport: the benchmark for intensive daily use, brakes already included.
- Thule Courier: entry-level alternative for tighter budgets.
- All models are available for 1 or 2 children.
Thule Chariot Lite: the right choice for leisure use
The Chariot Lite is our recommended entry point into the Thule multisport range. It's an excellent compromise between finish, practicality and price — designed for families who want to enjoy weekend bike rides or make occasional trips.
Its strengths:
- Recognisable Thule finish, durable materials, 5-point safety harness.
- Practical and lightweight (15.3 kg for the double version), compact fold for transport and storage.
- Jogging-ready: a single front wheel can be fitted to run with your child.
- Integrated leaf suspension for a smooth ride, even on bumpy roads.
Indicative price: €949.95 for the double version (Thule 2026 price). The single version costs slightly less. Off-road and cross-country skiing kits are sold separately if you want to broaden your usage.
Thule Chariot Cross: the versatile pick if your budget allows
If you have a slightly larger budget and want to step up a level, the Chariot Cross is our recommendation. It retains all the Lite's strengths and adds several features that make a real difference in day-to-day use.
What it adds compared to the Lite:
- More comfort for your child: adjustable suspension (tuned to weight and terrain) and one-hand reclining seat — perfect for naps on the go.
- Zipped rear storage compartment, genuinely useful for groceries, kids' gear or a picnic.
- Option to add handbrakes via the all-terrain kit — an excellent feature if you walk or run in hilly areas with downhills.
- FlipWing system to switch from bike to stroller mode in seconds, without unhitching the trailer.
Indicative price: €1,299.95 for the double version (Thule 2026 price). This is the model most of our customers go for: it genuinely covers the majority of family uses without unnecessary extra cost.
Thule Chariot Sport: the premium choice for daily use
The Chariot Sport is the most refined model in Thule's child range. It's aimed at families who use their trailer every day — school runs, active sports with kids, commuting with a daycare stop. It's also the pick for athletic parents who want to jog or cycle intensively with their children.
What it adds compared to the Cross:
- Hand-activated disc brakes already included — no need to buy the kit separately. Invaluable for long descents on foot or when jogging.
- Integrated high-visibility LED lighting (powered by the Thule Power Bank 10k, sold separately) — to stay visible in all conditions, morning or evening.
- Climate-controlled cabin with optimised ventilation and removable windows. Personally, we find this feature a bit of a gadget, but some customers really appreciate it in winter and summer alike.
Indicative price: €1,599.95 for the double version (Thule 2026 price). The Sport won the iF Design Award 2024 — it's the undisputed benchmark if you're after the best gear with no compromises.
Thule Courier: the entry-level alternative
Outside the Chariot range, Thule also offers the Courier, a simpler and more affordable trailer. Originally designed for transporting pets or cargo, it can also carry children and is an interesting alternative if you're looking for a budget-friendly Thule trailer for occasional use. It does not, however, offer the comfort, modularity or advanced suspension of the Chariot range.

In-store advice: which one should you choose?
Here's how we typically guide our customers in store, based on actual use:
- For mainly cycling use, leisure at weekends: the Chariot Lite is already excellent. You don't need to spend more — the Thule finish is there and your child will be perfectly comfortable.
- For mixed cycling + walking/running, with hilly areas: the Chariot Cross is our main recommendation. Being able to add brakes via the all-terrain kit makes a real difference on downhills, and the reclining seat is a game-changer for naps.
- For intensive daily use, every day: the Chariot Sport is the only real choice. Brakes included, integrated LED lighting — gear built to last and support you everywhere, anytime.
Come and try it in store: at KAMEO Bikes in Liège (Quai de Rome) and Brussels-Uccle (rue de la Mutualité), we can show you the differences in practice, test the fitting on your bike and advise you based on your family situation and usage frequency.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Thule trailer compatible with every bike? +
Thule trailers are compatible with the vast majority of bikes thanks to the ezHitch mounting system. For bikes fitted with a thru axle or an integrated hub, specific adapters are available. Feel free to bring your bike to the shop — we'll check compatibility and carry out the first installation with you.
From what age can a child be placed in a bike trailer? +
Generally, a child can sit in a trailer as soon as they can sit up unaided, typically around 9-12 months. For younger infants, Thule offers an Infant Sling accessory that allows a newborn to be carried from the very first months. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations and your paediatrician's advice.
Should I pick the 1- or 2-child version? +
Even if you only have one child today, the double version offers more space for gear (changing bag, picnic, groceries) and anticipates a possible addition to the family. The weight and size difference stays limited. If you're sure you won't have a second child and you want the most compact version, the single does the job perfectly.
Can a Thule trailer be used with an electric bike? +
Yes, and it's actually recommended if you're carrying two children. Electric assistance more than compensates for the extra weight. Just check the mounting compatibility — some e-bikes with integrated rear hubs require a specific adapter, which we keep in stock.
Are Thule trailers available at KAMEO Bikes? +
Yes. We offer the Thule range in our Liège and Brussels-Uccle shops, with personal advice, fitting tests on your bike and installation. Contact us to check availability of the model you're interested in, or drop by the shop in person.
