A bike key goes missing in a second: a hole in a pocket, a forgotten keyring, the bottom of a gym bag. On an e-bike, it often opens two things at once: the lock and the battery. Without it, the bike stays locked and the battery can no longer be charged off the frame.
The good news: with ABUS, AXA and Trelock, a replacement key can be ordered from a single number. Whether it is for your bike, its battery or your padlock, this article shows you where to find that number and how to order from each brand.
Information taken from the official ABUS, AXA and Trelock key services in October 2026. Lead times and conditions may change: check them when you order.

The number is on the key, not on the lock
This is the most common mistake. The number on the lock or on the battery mount cannot be used to order a key. Only the number on the key, or on the card that came with it, counts.
Where to look
→ On the head or blade of the key: a string of letters and digits, engraved or stamped.
→ On the card or tag supplied with the keys (the Code Card at ABUS).
→ Sometimes on your purchase invoice.
ABUS: recognise your key type
ABUS uses several key types depending on the lock. Here are the four most widespread families: compare your key with these photos to find out which one you have.
Round black head and smooth shaft with a flattened tip. The Code Card code starts with a digit.

The ABUS Code Card
Depending on the model, your ABUS keys come with a small card: the Code Card. It carries the code needed to make an identical key. Keep it at home, never on your keyring.
Order an ABUS key →AXA: the number on the key
With AXA, everything starts from the code engraved on the key. The lock number is not accepted.
Order an AXA key →
How to order
→ Enter the code as one word, without spaces and without the leading "C" or "A".
→ Stated lead time: two weeks, three at busy times.
Trelock: same principle
The number is right on the key. As with AXA, the lock number cannot be used to order.
Order a Trelock key →
How to order
→ Enter the code as one word, without spaces and without the leading "C" or "A".
→ Does your number start with a "U"? Contact Trelock customer service first.
→ Stated lead time: three to four weeks. For older models, the key may no longer be produced.
Keep your key numbers safe: a photo of the key and the Code Card, stored somewhere secure, is all it takes.
