The Giant Contend AR 1 is built for cyclists who want a road bike that performs on smooth tarmac but doesn't fall apart the moment the surface gets rough. The ALUXX-Grade aluminium frame with 12x142mm thru-axle provides a precise, responsive platform, while the Advanced-Grade Composite fork with full-composite OverDrive steerer takes the edge off road buzz before it reaches your hands.

Equipped with a full Shimano 105 2x12-speed groupset — including hydraulic disc brakes, shifters and derailleurs — the Contend AR 1 delivers a level of componentry more commonly found on higher-priced bikes. The 11-36T cassette gives you a wide gear range to tackle varied terrain without spinning out on descents or grinding up climbs.

The Giant Gavia Fondo 2 tyres in 700x32c come tubeless ready straight out of the box. Running tubeless means fewer punctures and the option to drop tyre pressure slightly for better grip and comfort on longer rides. The frame accepts tyres up to 38mm, giving you room to go wider for gravel paths or cobbled sections. The Giant D-Fuse composite seatpost, with 14mm of offset, flexes vertically to reduce fatigue over long distances.

Available in Frost Silver/Chrome and five sizes from S to XL, the Contend AR 1 suits commuters, endurance riders and anyone looking for a genuinely versatile road bike for the 2025–2026 season.
